Nacho set to stay at Real Madrid for one more season

A report by MARCA, states that Nacho has reached a decision about his future and intends to stay with the club for the foreseeable future.

With his contract set to expire in the summer, Real Madrid had offered an extension which was initially declined by the Spanish player.

However, Nacho has now chosen to turn down offers from several top clubs, including Juventus, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and AC Milan in favour to stay at Madrid.

The agreement entails Nacho signing a one-year extension, with the possibility of extending for an additional year if mutually agreed upon.

This decision also means that Nacho will assume the role of club captain for the upcoming 2023/24 season, as Karim Benzema is set to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer. Luka Modric will serve as the second captain, followed by Daniel Carvajal and Toni Kroos.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti has personally spoken with Nacho, affirming their trust in him for the next season. This conversation played a significant role in convincing Nacho to continue with the team.

Despite being primarily a center-back, Nacho has displayed his versatility by consistently performing in various defensive positions, including left-back, right-back, and center-back.

Had Nacho decided to depart, Real Madrid would likely have been compelled to acquire another defender, particularly considering the potential sale of Ferland Mendy if a satisfactory offer arises.

Nevertheless, the club is already making moves to sign Alphonso Davies and has initiated initial contact with the player. Encouragingly, Bayern Munich has not rejected these advances.
