Manchester United have included Mason Greenwood in their retained list of players, despite the forward’s ongoing suspension.
Greenwood, who faced charges of attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behaviour, saw these charges dropped in February after key witnesses withdrew their involvement. However, the club continues its internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the allegations.
Greenwood, 21, has not trained or played with his teammates since his arrest in January 2022. Despite this, his inclusion in the retained list suggests a potential return to the squad under the stewardship of manager Erik ten Hag. However, the club has made it clear that this does not indicate any final decision regarding Greenwood’s future at Old Trafford.
The club’s retained list also includes updates on other players. David de Gea, whose contract is nearing its end, is in ongoing discussions with the club regarding a new deal. Meanwhile, Tom Heaton and Nathan Bishop have triggered extensions, and new deals are being processed for Rhys Bennett and Ethan Laird.
In addition to these updates, the club confirmed the departures of several players, including Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe. Jones leaves after 12 years and 229 appearances for the club, while Tuanzebe, who has captained United at every level, also departs.
