David De Gea’s Man United Future Hangs in the Balance

De Gea’s future at Old Trafford is currently uncertain as he is approaching the end of his contract, and there is a strong possibility that he may leave the club during the upcoming summer transfer window, that is according to the Mirror.

The Spanish goalkeeper has faced criticism this season due to several costly mistakes, including his performance in Manchester United’s recent 1-0 defeat to West Ham in the Premier League. Additionally, he was at fault for Manchester City’s winning goal in the FA Cup final against United.

De Gea became the highest-paid player at Manchester United in 2019, with a significant contract that also made him the top earner in the Premier League, receiving a weekly salary of £375,000.

However, as he is now 32 years old, he recognizes that he may not be able to command the same level of remuneration but still desires a contract that reflects his value.

In light of De Gea’s uncertain future, Manchester United are actively seeking a new goalkeeper who can both challenge him for the starting position and potentially replace him as the first-choice option.

Diogo Costa has emerged as a strong candidate for this role, and the club is reportedly monitoring his situation closely.

Another goalkeeper being considered is David Raya from Brentford, although Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Raya is believed to be more advanced. Raya’s contract with Brentford is set to expire in 2024.

According to a report in A Bola, Manchester United’s interest in Diogo Costa is well underway, with Chelsea and Newcastle also expressing interest, although neither club has made significant progress in negotiations. The future of Costa is expected to be decided shortly after the Portuguese Cup final on Sunday.
