Aston Villa has reached an agreement to acquire Youri Tielemans, marking their first signing of the summer transfer window.
The talented midfielder was one of seven players released by Leicester City after his contract expired.
However, Tielemans swiftly secured a new club, with report form the Athletic indicating that he is already undergoing a medical examination ahead of the move to Villa Park.
The signing of Tielemans is a significant coup for Aston Villa, as the Belgian international had been the subject of substantial interest from several top clubs in the Champions League, leading to intense competition for his signature across Europe.
At the age of 26, Tielemans has already established himself as a highly sought-after player, and his addition to the Villa squad will undoubtedly bolster their midfield options.
Tielemans’ successful spell at Leicester City began in January 2019 when he initially joined on loan from AS Monaco. Six months later, the move was made permanent, and he went on to make 195 appearances for the Foxes over the course of four years.
During his time at the King Power Stadium, Tielemans played a pivotal role in Leicester’s achievements, contributing to their back-to-back fifth-place finishes in 2019 and 2020.
His standout moment came in the 2021 FA Cup final against Chelsea, where he scored the winning goal at Wembley, helping his former side secure the prestigious trophy.
For Aston Villa, securing European football next season was a significant accomplishment. They finished in seventh place in the Premier League, earning qualification for the inaugural Europa Conference League.
With Tielemans’ arrival, the club aims to further strengthen their squad and make a positive impact in European competition.
