Wolves staged a dramatic comeback, securing a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Premier League leaders Arsenal at Molineux Stadium. An injury-time own goal dramatically leveled the score, denying the Gunners two crucial points.

Top-of-the-table Arsenal, leading the league with 56 points, aimed to extend their advantage. They faced a struggling Wolves side, rooted to 20th position and desperate for points. The Gunners sought to reaffirm their title challenge.

The match sparked into life early. Arsenal quickly took the lead through Bukayo Saka in the 5th minute. The winger calmly slotted home from close range after a precise assist from Declan Rice.

Despite the early goal, Arsenal found further breakthroughs difficult. Wolves defended with discipline, restricting the league leaders’ attacking flow. The Gunners controlled possession but created few additional clear-cut chances.

The first half concluded with Arsenal holding a slender lead. Wolves’ Santiago Bueno received a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct just before the half-time whistle in the 45+4 minute.

At the break, Arsenal led, but Wolves showed resilience. Mikel Arteta’s side needed to find another gear to secure victory. Wolves, meanwhile, sought an attacking spark to get back into the game.

Arsenal seemed to take control shortly after the restart. Piero Hincapié doubled their lead in the 56th minute. The defender powerfully headed in a cross from Gabriel Magalhães, extending Arsenal’s advantage to 2-0.

Wolves responded almost immediately, reigniting their hopes. Hugo Bueno pulled a goal back just five minutes later, in the 61st minute. His strike, assisted by Santiago Bueno, halved the deficit and galvanized the Molineux crowd.

Both managers then made tactical adjustments. Arsenal introduced Viktor Gyökeres and Noni Madueke in the 65th minute, seeking to regain attacking impetus. Wolves brought on Joris Tchatchoua, while Jean-Ricner Bellegarde earned a yellow card for tripping.

The match reached a thrilling conclusion as Wolves pushed for an equalizer. Their persistent pressure paid off in dramatic fashion in the 90+4 minute. Riccardo Calafiori tragically diverted the ball into his own net, making it 2-2.

Statistically, Arsenal dominated possession with 58% to Wolves’ 42%. The Gunners recorded 10 total shots (4 on target), significantly higher than Wolves’ 5 total shots (2 on target). Arsenal’s expected goals (xG) were 1.81, compared to Wolves’ 0.3.

This late twist leaves Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge slightly dented. Conversely, the hard-fought point offers a vital psychological boost for bottom-placed Wolves. They defied the odds with a spirited performance against the league leaders.
