Poland’s national football team suffered a defeat in their Euro 2024 qualifier against Moldova, a team ranked 171st in the world. Despite securing a two-goal lead in the first half, Poland was unable to maintain their advantage, eventually losing 3-2.

Arkadiusz Milik and Robert Lewandowski were the goal scorers for Poland. Lewandowski’s goal marked a significant milestone, being the 1500th goal in the over century-long history of Poland’s national team. It was also his personal 79th goal for Poland.

However, the second half of the match saw a complete turnaround. Ion Nicolaescu, who plays for Beitar Jerusalem, scored twice to bring Moldova back on level terms. These strikes took the 24-year-old, who has won 34 caps, on to a national record 12 goals. The final blow for Poland came in the 85th minute when defender Vladyslav Baboglo scored the winning goal with a header.

The defeat was a significant setback for Poland, who now sit fourth in their Euro 2024 qualifying Group E. With only three points from three games.

After the match, Robert Lewandowski expressed his disappointment, stating, “How do I feel? How can I feel? It’s a huge disappointment.” He also emphasized the need to focus on the upcoming games, saying, “The margin of error is really small and we have no other option than to win the remaining games.”

Poland’s next qualifier is against the Faroe Islands on September 7, followed by a match against Albania three days later. As the team regroups and refocuses, the upcoming games will be crucial in determining their path in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
