Manchester United are reportedly preparing to make an improved offer for Chelsea’s star midfielder, Mason Mount. This comes after an initial bid of £40m was rejected by the London club.

United’s interest in Mount is not without reason. The Red Devils’ manager, Erik ten Hag, is said to appreciate Mount’s skillset, particularly his energy in both attacking and defensive phases. The former Chelsea Player of the Year, despite a challenging season at Stamford Bridge, is seen as an astute purchase that could bolster United’s midfield.

Reports suggest that Chelsea are looking for a fee in the region of £70m for Mount, a figure that United might find challenging to match due to their own financial constraints. However, with Chelsea needing to reduce their squad size and recoup money from sales to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, there is growing optimism that a deal can be reached.

Mount, who has just 12 months left on his contract, has reportedly made it clear that Old Trafford is his first choice. This, coupled with the fact that Chelsea went through four coaches last season, could tip the scales in United’s favour.
