Liverpool FC is reportedly on the verge of completing a deal for Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister. According to Paul Joyce of The Times, the player’s representatives are already in England, and the transfer could be announced as early as this week.

A High-Stakes Transfer

The Argentinian World Cup winner has been in talks with Liverpool, and the club is set to activate a release clause in his contract. The exact figure of the release clause is still unknown, with estimates ranging from £45 million to £55 million, and even as high as £61 million.

This clause was likely inserted in October when Mac Allister extended his contract with Brighton. Had he not extended his contract, he would have been available for free this summer. This explains why Brighton agreed to the clause, even though they typically do not include release clauses in their contracts.

A Preferred Move to Liverpool

Interestingly, Liverpool managed to outbid Manchester United for Mac Allister’s signature. The player reportedly preferred Liverpool and is keen to work with manager Jürgen Klopp. After completing this deal, Liverpool is expected to explore potential signings of Nice’s Khéphren Thuram and Romeo Lavia of Southampton.
