West Ham United‘s Italian international striker, Gianluca Scamacca, is at the heart of transfer discussions. According to sources confirmed to 90min, Roma has initiated talks with West Ham over a potential deal for Scamacca. This move comes in the wake of Roma’s first-choice striker, Tammy Abraham, suffering an ACL injury, which has led the club to search for new attacking options.

Scamacca, who joined West Ham last summer in a £35m deal from Sassuolo, has had a challenging season. A combination of injuries and lack of form restricted him to just 11 Premier League starts, during which he scored only three league goals. Despite this, Scamacca is reportedly open to the idea of a move back to Italy, particularly to his hometown of Rome, where he was once a youth player with Roma.

Inter Milan and AC Milan have also shown interest in signing Scamacca. However, the player seems to be leaning towards joining Roma, according to a report from Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport. The 24-year-old striker is seeking more playing time and has indicated that if he were to return to Serie A, Roma would be his first-choice destination.

West Ham is aware that they may have to sanction an initial loan for Scamacca but they hope to include a sizeable option to purchase the player in any deal. This move could be beneficial for Scamacca, who believes that a return to the Italian top flight could offer him more playing time next season.

Scamacca’s potential departure from West Ham comes after just one season. The Hammers had paid a hefty €36 million fee plus €6 million in add-ons to bring the Italian international to the London Stadium from Sassuolo. However, Scamacca has not found the playing time he had expected in the Premier League.

Inter Milan, who had shown interest in signing Scamacca from Sassuolo last summer before West Ham ultimately won the race for his signature, are reportedly interested in making another move for the Italian international. They see Scamacca as a like-for-like replacement if Edin Dzeko leaves this summer. AC Milan is also hoping to sign Scamacca, but the striker currently prefers to make the switch to Roma.

As the transfer talks continue, it remains to be seen where Scamacca will land for the upcoming season.
