Fulham staged a dramatic second-half comeback at Craven Cottage, overturning a deficit to defeat struggling Burnley 3-1 in the Premier League.
Fulham secured a vital home victory over relegation-threatened Burnley, propelled by inspired performances from Joshua King and Harry Wilson. This result significantly deepened the Clarets’ survival worries.
Entering the match, Fulham sat in 12th place, aiming to consolidate their mid-table position. Meanwhile, 19th-placed Burnley desperately sought points to escape the Premier League relegation zone.
The first half proved a cautious affair. Both teams probed for openings, but lacked a decisive edge. Chances were at a premium, with defences largely holding firm throughout the opening 45 minutes.
Fulham controlled 55% of the ball possession. However, they struggled to convert this into clear-cut opportunities. J. Laurent of Burnley received a yellow card in the 37th minute for a foul.
Neither side found the breakthrough before the whistle. This sent the teams into the break deadlocked at 0-0. The interval promised a more open second half.
The second half burst into life, but not as Fulham supporters wished. Burnley’s Zian Flemming broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, firing past Bernd Leno. This crucial lead came against the run of play.
Fulham reacted swiftly to going behind. Just seven minutes later, in the 67th minute, Joshua King leveled the score, slotting home from close range. His goal ignited the Craven Cottage faithful.
The turnaround was completed moments later. Harry Wilson guided Fulham into the lead in the 73rd minute, combining well with King to finish clinically. The Welsh international’s strike put the home side firmly in control.
The closing stages saw further drama. Burnley’s J. Laurent received his second yellow card in the 93rd minute, reducing the visitors to ten men. Their task of finding an equaliser became even harder.
Raul Jimenez then secured the points for Fulham deep into injury time. The Mexican striker calmly converted a penalty in the 95th minute. This sealed a convincing 3-1 victory for the home side.
The statistics underscored Fulham’s attacking prowess. They registered an expected goals (xG) tally of 3.24 compared to Burnley’s 1.24. Fulham also managed 22 total shots, with 6 on target.
This vital victory moved Fulham further away from the relegation dogfight, cementing their mid-table standing. For Burnley, the defeat was another significant blow to their Premier League survival hopes at 19th.
