Kylian Mbappé scored twice as France brushed aside Sweden 3-0 at MetLife Stadium to march into the World Cup knockout rounds in commanding fashion.
On a night that confirmed France's status as one of the tournament favourites, Didier Deschamps' side controlled possession, peppered the goal and never looked in danger.
Mbappé thought he had opened the scoring in the 21st minute, only for the VAR to rule the effort out for offside, briefly checking France's momentum.
The breakthrough arrived right on half-time. A short corner routine involving Ousmane Dembélé and Michael Olise teed up Mbappé to cut inside and curl a right-footed shot into the top-right corner.
It was a goal for the history books, with Mbappé breaking the record for the most goals scored in the knockout stages of World Cup history.
France doubled their lead in the 53rd minute. Olise threaded a through ball for Bradley Barcola, who finished clinically into the top-left corner.
Olise turned provider again in the 74th minute, slipping in Mbappé to sweep home into the bottom-right corner and effectively end the contest.
Mbappé's second drew him level with Lionel Messi at the top of the tournament's Golden Boot charts before he was withdrawn to a warm ovation.
The statistics underlined France's dominance. They managed 25 shots to Sweden's six, registered an expected goals figure of 3.16 and forced nine saves from Jacob Widell Zetterström.
Sweden, managed by Graham Potter, struggled to break down a French defence marshalled by William Saliba and Dayot Upamecano, with Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak starved of service.
Graham Potter's side had reached the knockout phase as one of the best third-placed teams from Group F, but they bow out without ever threatening an upset.
Deschamps returned to the touchline having missed France's final group game against Norway to attend his mother's funeral, and his team produced a polished response.
France finished their group with a perfect record of three wins from three, scoring eight and conceding none along the way.
Attention now turns to the next round, where France's blend of defensive solidity and ruthless attacking quality will make them a daunting prospect for any opponent.
