Arsenal have secured the long-term future of their talented youngster Ethan Nwaneri, despite interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester City. The 16-year-old midfielder has signed scholarship terms with the club and agreed to a professional deal for when he turns 17 in March 2024.

Nwaneri made history as the youngest player in Premier League history when he came on as a substitute during Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Brentford in September 2022, aged just 15 years and 181 days.

He is regarded as one of the country’s top prospects and has been an Arsenal supporter since he was a boy, having grown up in Islington, just a short distance away from the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has previously described Nwaneri as a “big talent“. The youngster has made strong impressions for Arsenal’s under-18s and under-21 teams, scoring goals and providing assists in various competitions.

Despite receiving lucrative financial offers from other clubs, Nwaneri never wanted to leave Arsenal, his lifelong favourite club. His decision to commit his future to the Gunners is a significant boost for the club as they look to develop their young talent.
