Chelsea Target Romeo Lavia Despite Liverpool Agreeing £60m Deal

Chelsea Close to Signing Romeo Lavia

Chelsea Football Club is on the verge of signing Southampton’s highly sought-after midfielder, Romeo Lavia, despite Liverpool having agreed to a £60 million transfer deal with Southampton. The 19-year-old Belgian has decided to snub Liverpool in favor of a move to Chelsea. Chelsea is expected to pay £50 million plus add-ons for Lavia.

The signing of Lavia would take Chelsea’s total transfer fee commitment past the £900 million mark since the club’s new American owners assumed control in June 2022. This follows the recent signing of Moises Caicedo, who also chose Chelsea over Liverpool despite the Reds agreeing to a £111 million fee with Brighton.

Liverpool had three bids turned down for Lavia, with the most recent attempt of £45 million falling £5 million short of Southampton’s asking price. Chelsea is confident of wrapping up a deal for Lavia soon, and the player is expected to undergo a medical at the club.

The signing of Lavia would be a significant coup for Chelsea and a blow to Liverpool, who have already missed out on Caicedo and are now set to lose out on Lavia as well. Chelsea’s spending spree under new ownership is showing no signs of slowing down, with the club looking to build a formidable squad for the upcoming season.
