AC Milan have made the difficult decision to part ways with legend Paolo Maldini. Maldini worked for 5 years in the role of Technical Director. He was hugely responsible in helping Milan their first Serie A title in 11 years, and reach the semi-final of the Champions League this season.
Milan confirmed Maldini’s departure in a statement on Tuesday: “AC Milan announces that Paolo Maldini concludes his role at the Club, effective as of June 5, 2023. We thank him for his years of service in the role, contributing to the return to the Champions League and to winning the Scudetto in 2021/22. His day-to-day duties will be performed by a team working in close integration with the first team manager, ultimately reporting to the CEO.”
Maldini has spent his entire career at Milan as a player, captain, technical director and over all of them, a legend. The club loses a massive historical figure in their hierarchy as internal disputes over CEO and Maldini reached a limit.
Debates regarding recruitment strategy and investment in new players has led to Maldini’s role being made vacant as the club board seeks alternate strategies.
