Mariano Díaz struck late in the second half to rescue a 1-1 draw for Alavés against Rayo Vallecano at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque.
In a fixture temporarily relocated to Leganés, Rayo looked poised to claim their first win of the new La Liga campaign before the visitors fought back.
The hosts suffered an early setback inside the opening twenty minutes when Randy Nteka was forced off and replaced by Isi Palazón in attack.
Rayo thought they had taken the lead before half-time when Pelayo Fernández found the net, but the effort was disallowed following a VAR review by referee José Luis Munuera Montero.
The breakthrough arrived shortly after the interval when Jorge de Frutos delivered a precise pass to Sergio Camello, who guided a crisp right-footed finish into the bottom left corner.
Camello's composed strike handed Rayo a deserved advantage, allowing the home side to dictate the tempo and control possession across much of the second period.
Alavés grew into the contest as the final whistle approached and found their leveller in the 83rd minute, with Díaz firing a brilliant right-footed shot into the net from outside the penalty area.
The visitors withstood late pressure across eight minutes of stoppage time to ensure both sides left the Estadio Butarque with a share of the spoils.
The result moves Alavés onto four points from their opening two league fixtures, while Rayo Vallecano secured their first point of the new campaign.
