Leeds defeated Burnley 3-1 at Elland Road to climb toward safety, with Anton Stach’s early strike setting the tone for a dominant home performance.

Leeds came into this May 1st clash sitting 15th in the Premier League with 40 points from 34 matches. Burnley occupied 19th place, struggling with just 20 points from the same number of games. The visitors arrived in poor form, having lost their last three matches. Leeds showed recent inconsistency but held clear motivation to secure their league status.

Stach made an immediate impact, firing Leeds ahead in the 8th minute with a clinical finish. The home side controlled possession early and pressed Burnley into defensive positions. Leeds created multiple chances as Burnley struggled to establish any rhythm in the opening stages.

The first half saw several yellow cards issued as both teams became increasingly physical. Struijk received a caution for Leeds in the 27th minute. Burnley’s Humphreys and Tchaouna picked up yellows in the 35th and 37th minutes respectively. Rodon added another Leeds booking in the 40th minute as the tempo intensified.

Leeds maintained their pressure throughout the first period. Despite Burnley’s attempts to settle, they managed only limited offensive opportunities. The hosts created 11 shots inside the box compared to Burnley’s five. Half-time arrived with Leeds in complete control of the contest.

The second half began with Leeds extending their advantage. Okafor doubled the lead in the 52nd minute with a composed finish. Four minutes later, Calvert-Lewin made it 3-0 in the 56th minute, seemingly putting the match beyond reach. Calvert-Lewin received a yellow card in the 48th minute for a separate incident.

Burnley finally found the net through Tchaouna in the 71st minute, pulling one back to make it 3-1. The goal provided some consolation for the struggling visitors but came too late to threaten a comeback. Leeds controlled the remainder of the match despite Burnley’s late efforts.

Ampadu picked up a yellow for Leeds in the 75th minute, while Mejbri saw yellow for Burnley in the 88th minute. The final stages remained largely controlled by the home side. Leeds saw out the victory comfortably.

The statistics told the story of Leeds’ dominance. Leeds recorded 18 total shots with 8 on target, compared to Burnley’s 9 shots and 3 on target. Expected goals favored Leeds at 1.65 to Burnley’s 0.53. Leeds completed 356 of 448 passes with 79% accuracy, while Burnley managed 416 of 503 passes at 83% accuracy.

Stach led Leeds’ performance with a rating of 8.0, combining his goal with three key passes and two tackles. Bogle contributed an assist while maintaining solid defending throughout. Okafor’s 7.3 rating reflected his clinical finishing. For Burnley, Tchaouna earned a 7.2 rating despite the heavy defeat.

This victory lifts Leeds closer to safety as the season winds down. Burnley’s struggles continue, leaving them in a precarious position near the relegation zone. Leeds’ commanding display suggests they possess the quality needed to secure their Premier League status for another season.
