Cristian Chivu's side took just six minutes to break the deadlock when Andy Diouf advanced down the right wing and pulled the ball back for Hakan Calhanoglu to blast home from 20 yards.
Monza absorbed heavy pressure throughout the opening period but struck back against the run of play in the 29th minute.

Yann Bisseck put the result beyond any doubt eight minutes later, driving home a left-footed strike after Esposito turned provider inside the penalty area.
Akanji struck the crossbar as the dominant hosts pressed for more, before England international John Stones made his debut from the bench in the closing stages.
