Ecuador and Curaçao played out a goalless stalemate at Arrowhead Stadium, with the South Americans dominating possession but unable to break down a resolute defensive display.

Ecuador controlled the match from start to finish, creating numerous chances in their World Cup opener. The home side dominated the ball with 75 percent possession and fired 28 shots, but Curaçao’s goalkeeper Eloy Room delivered an outstanding performance to keep the score level.

The first half saw Ecuador establish their authority early. Midfielder Pedro Vite created chances with pinpoint passing, while the defense remained organized. In the 38th minute, J. Alcivar picked up a yellow card for a rash challenge, setting a physical tone for the contest.

Curaçao responded with defensive discipline despite limited opportunities. L. Bacuna received a yellow card in the 39th minute as the visitors looked to frustrate their opponents. The Caribbean side managed just three shots on target throughout the entire match.

At halftime, Ecuador had created the better chances but failed to convert. Expected goals favored the home team significantly, with Ecuador generating 3.06 xG compared to Curaçao’s 0.48. Room’s early saves kept the match scoreless heading into the break.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Ecuador continued pressing forward with intensity and precision. Willian Pacho fired a dangerous effort on target, while Caicedo controlled the midfield with authority and leadership.

Curaçao accumulated yellow cards as the match progressed. J. Bacuna saw yellow in the 53rd minute, followed by L. Comenencia in the 56th. J. Gaari and G. Kastaneer also received cautions as the visitors became increasingly frustrated.

Ecuador’s attacking prowess never wavered. The home team completed 577 accurate passes from 641 attempts, displaying 90 percent accuracy. Nine corner kicks came their way, but set-piece execution let them down repeatedly.

Room proved the match’s standout performer with 15 saves. His reflexes and positioning were exceptional throughout. Ecuador’s Hernán Galíndez made three crucial saves at the other end to preserve the draw.

The final whistle brought frustration for Ecuador despite their superiority. Neither team managed to find the back of the net despite multiple opportunities. This result leaves both sides with work to do in their World Cup campaigns.

Ecuador will look to convert their dominance into goals in their next fixture. Curaçao will take confidence from their defensive resilience but need attacking improvements. The point keeps both teams alive in the tournament race.
