Ange Postecoglou has been appointed head coach of Al-Nassr on a two-year contract, taking charge of a squad headlined by Cristiano Ronaldo. The 60-year-old Australian returns to management after a turbulent spell in English football.
Al-Nassr confirmed the appointment on July 3, 2026, with an official statement reading: "A new chapter. Mr Ange Postecoglou appointed as head coach of the Al-Nassr first team. The contract spans two seasons.
We wish him and his staff every success in their journey."
Postecoglou inherits the reigning Saudi Pro League champions, with Jorge Jesus having stepped down after guiding the club to the title on the final day of the 2025-26 season in May.
Beyond Ronaldo, the Australian will work with an elite roster including João Félix, Marcelo Brozović, and Sadio Mané. The deal is described as lucrative, though exact financial terms have not been disclosed.
The appointment marks a remarkable career pivot for Postecoglou, who guided Tottenham Hotspur to Europa League glory in 2025. He was then sacked just two weeks later after Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League.
His subsequent move to Nottingham Forest proved even more short-lived. He lasted approximately 40 days at the City Ground, going winless in eight matches before being dismissed in October 2025.
Postecoglou was subsequently linked with the Scotland national team vacancy and the Kazakhstan job, but neither materialised. Reports suggested his wage demands proved prohibitive for the Kazakhstan role, though those figures remain unconfirmed.
At Al-Nassr, Postecoglou now faces the challenge of defending the Saudi Pro League title while managing some of football's most recognisable names. His attacking philosophy will be tested against a backdrop of elevated expectations.
The move represents a fresh start for a coach whose tactical ambition has never been in doubt, even when results have not followed. Managing Ronaldo will be the defining challenge of this next chapter.
