Cole Palmer’s sensational hat-trick powered Chelsea to a comprehensive 3-1 victory over struggling Wolves at Molineux Stadium.
Chelsea’s attacking midfielder Cole Palmer delivered a masterclass, securing all three points for the visitors on a cold February night. His individual brilliance defined the Premier League encounter, leaving the home side frustrated.
Heading into this Premier League clash on February 7, 2026, Wolves found themselves in dire straits. Positioned at the very bottom of the table, they desperately sought a vital victory. Chelsea, however, arrived in strong form, sitting comfortably in fifth place and eyeing European qualification.
Chelsea asserted their dominance early, controlling possession and probing the Wolves defence. Their persistent pressure paid dividends in the 13th minute when Cole Palmer calmly converted a penalty, dispatching the ball beyond José Sá.
The young England international was not finished. Palmer doubled Chelsea’s advantage in the 35th minute, confidently converting his second penalty of the match. The spot-kick punished another lapse in the Wolves defence, extending the visitors’ lead.
Just three minutes later, in the 38th minute, Palmer completed a sensational first-half hat-trick. He expertly guided home a precise pass from Marc Cucurella, showcasing his clinical finishing. As the half drew to a close, Wolves’ Adam Armstrong received a yellow card in the 45+4 minute for a mistimed challenge.
At the interval, Chelsea held a commanding three-goal lead, completely dictating the pace of the game. Wolves faced a monumental task to stage any form of comeback, needing a drastic improvement in the second half.
Wolves emerged with renewed determination after the break, making an early tactical change. Matt Doherty replaced Rúben Gomes in the 46th minute, signalling an intent to inject more urgency into their play.
Their efforts were soon rewarded in the 54th minute when Tolu Arokodare pulled a goal back for the hosts. The Nigerian striker slotted home an assist from Adam Armstrong, offering a glimmer of hope to the Molineux faithful.
Chelsea responded by managing the game, notably substituting hat-trick hero Cole Palmer for Alejandro Garnacho in the 61st minute. Marc Cucurella later earned a yellow card in the 73rd minute for handling the ball, a minor blemish on Chelsea’s disciplined performance.
The final quarter saw both teams introduce further substitutions, with João Pedro and Josh Acheampong entering the fray for Chelsea. Despite Wolves pushing for another goal, the visitors held firm, seeing out the match with professional composure.
The match statistics clearly illustrated Chelsea’s superiority throughout the contest. They boasted an Expected Goals (xG) figure of 3.16 compared to Wolves’ 0.99, alongside 67% ball possession. Chelsea registered 15 total shots, with 6 on target, to Wolves’ 10 shots and 3 on target.
This decisive victory solidified Chelsea’s hold on fifth place in the Premier League standings, bolstering their challenge for European qualification. For Wolves, the defeat deepened their relegation worries, keeping them firmly at the foot of the table with little room to manoeuvre.
