Wolves: Moutinho and Costa Depart, Traore’s Future Hangs in the Balance

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ sporting director, Matt Hobbs, has officially confirmed that two players, Joao Moutinho and Diego Costa, will be leaving the club upon the expiration of their current contracts. However, negotiations are still underway with Adama Traore regarding a potential contract extension.

Hobbs expressed his admiration for 36-year-old Portuguese midfielder Moutinho, hailing him as one of the greatest players to have ever donned the club’s colors. He emphasized Moutinho’s integral role in the team’s success over the past few years and conveyed the club’s gratitude for his contributions. Hobbs wished Moutinho the best of luck for his future endeavors.

Moutinho, who joined Wolverhampton Wanderers from Monaco in July 2018, made a remarkable 212 appearances for the club. His departure marks the end of an era, leaving a notable void in the team.

Regarding Diego Costa, the 34-year-old Brazil-born Spanish striker, Hobbs stated that it felt like the appropriate time to part ways since Costa was on a one-year contract. Internal discussions led the club to this decision.

Hobbs expressed confidence in Costa’s ability to secure a new club due to his performances. He assured that if any club inquired about Costa’s character, he would have nothing but praise to offer.

In contrast, there remains a glimmer of hope for Adama Traore’s future with the club. Manager Julen Lopetegui has expressed his desire to retain the services of the 27-year-old, and negotiations are currently ongoing.

Hobbs clarified that Traore is now a free agent, but that does not rule out the possibility of reaching an agreement. The club understands Traore’s right to explore other options and is willing to engage in discussions to secure his continued presence at Molineux.

Hobbs acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Traore’s future but expressed optimism that an agreement could be reached in the coming weeks. The club recognizes Traore’s contributions and hopes to retain his talents, although they remain open to exploring other possibilities.
