Borussia Dortmund clinched a dramatic 2-1 away win against VfL Wolfsburg in a hard-fought Bundesliga encounter. Serhou Guirassy’s decisive 87th-minute strike proved the difference after Konstantinos Koulierakis had bravely levelled for the home side.
Entering this match, Dortmund sat comfortably second in the league, boasting impressive form with three consecutive wins. VfL Wolfsburg, meanwhile, continued their struggle in 15th place, looking to break a patchy run of recent results.
The visitors, Borussia Dortmund, immediately seized control. They dominated possession from the opening whistle, moving the ball with precision. Wolfsburg was pressed deep into their own half.
Dortmund’s persistent control paid off in the 38th minute when Julian Brandt broke the deadlock. He finished calmly from inside the box after a precise assist from right-back Julian Ryerson, giving Dortmund a deserved lead.
Wolfsburg worked hard defensively but struggled to create clear-cut chances against Dortmund’s organised backline. The visitors confidently took their narrow one-goal advantage into the half-time break.
At the interval, Wolfsburg’s coach likely called for a more direct approach. Dortmund aimed to maintain their disciplined control and extend their slender lead in the second period.
The restart saw a more physical contest. Wolfsburg’s Adam Daghim was cautioned in the 47th minute for a trip, followed by Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck in the 51st minute.
Wolfsburg found their crucial equaliser just a minute later, in the 52nd minute. Konstantinos Koulierakis brought the home side level, expertly converting a brilliant assist from veteran midfielder Christian Eriksen.
With the score tied at 1-1, both teams pushed relentlessly for a winning goal. Tactical substitutions followed, with Dortmund bringing on fresh legs to increase their attacking threat.
However, just as the match appeared destined for a draw, Serhou Guirassy found the decisive goal for Dortmund in the 87th minute. He powerfully converted from close range after an incisive pass from substitute F. Silva.
Dortmund’s dominance was statistically clear, holding 66% possession and registering an impressive 21 total shots. Wolfsburg remarkably posted a higher expected goals (xG) figure of 1.45 to Dortmund’s 1.27, despite fewer shots on target (2-4).
This crucial victory solidifies Dortmund’s strong second-place position in the Bundesliga table. Wolfsburg remains stuck near the bottom, with their arduous fight for top-flight survival continuing after another challenging home result.
