Sassuolo staged a stunning second-half comeback, scoring two quick goals to defeat Udinese 2-1 at the Bluenergy Stadium. Andrea Pinamonti and Armand Laurienté netted within minutes of each other, cancelling out Oumar Solet’s early opener.

Udinese, sitting ninth in Serie A, entered the match with hopes of solidifying their mid-table position after a run of mixed results. Meanwhile, eleventh-placed Sassuolo aimed to break a recent pattern of inconsistent form, seeking a vital away win to climb the standings.

The home side started brightly, asserting early control in front of their fans. Their efforts were quickly rewarded in the 10th minute. Central defender Oumar Solet rose highest to head home from a well-delivered cross by J. Ekkelenkamp, giving Udinese a precious lead.

Sassuolo struggled to find their rhythm in the face of Udinese’s determined play. The first half saw a physical contest, with yellow cards shown to Sassuolo’s T. Muharemovic in the 16th minute and Udinese’s A. Atta five minutes later.

Udinese went into the break holding a narrow advantage. However, Sassuolo’s coach knew changes were needed to inject urgency and creativity into his side’s attack.

The visitors responded immediately after the interval with a double substitution. Ulisses Garcia and Woyo Coulibaly entered the fray, instantly shifting the dynamic of the game. Garcia, in particular, proved to be an influential presence from midfield.

Sassuolo’s renewed impetus paid off decisively. In the 56th minute, Armand Laurienté fired home an equalizer, assisted by Andrea Pinamonti, igniting the comeback. The momentum swung firmly in the away team’s favour.

Just two minutes later, the turnaround was complete. Pinamonti, having assisted the first, found the back of the net himself, guided home by another assist from Ulisses Garcia in the 58th minute. This quickfire double left the home crowd stunned.

Udinese desperately pushed for a reply, even seeing a goal by N. Bertola disallowed for handball following a VAR review in the 70th minute. Further substitutions were made by both teams in the closing stages as the intensity remained high.

The statistics painted a clear picture of Sassuolo’s efficiency. Despite Udinese holding 51% possession, Sassuolo generated a higher Expected Goals (xG) of 1.37 compared to Udinese’s 0.54. Sassuolo also had more total shots (10 to 8) and shots on target (3 to 2).

This vital 2-1 victory moves Sassuolo to within three points of Udinese in the Serie A table. For Udinese, it marks a frustrating loss at home, highlighting areas for improvement as they look to rebound in their next fixture.
