Investigation and Confirmation

UEFA conducted an investigation into the matter and concluded that Marciniak had been “gravely misled and completely unaware of the true nature and affiliations of the event in question.” As a result, UEFA decided to retain the 42-year-old Pole as the referee for the final.

In a statement, UEFA said, “Following Mr. Marciniak’s statement, UEFA acknowledges his profound apologies and clarification.” UEFA also reached out to “NEVERAGAIN,” an NGO affiliated with the FARE network, which raised the initial concerns about Marciniak’s involvement in the event. They requested that Marciniak remain in his role as the referee for the upcoming UEFA Champions League final, asserting that removing him would undermine the promotion of anti-discrimination.

Marciniak’s Apology

Marciniak issued a statement expressing his deepest apologies for his involvement and any distress or harm it may have caused. He stated, “Upon reflection and further investigation, it has become evident that I was gravely misled and completely unaware of the true nature and affiliations of the event in question.

Despite the controversy, Marciniak’s appointment as the referee for the UEFA Champions League final stands. His experience and expertise will be crucial in ensuring a fair and exciting match between Manchester City and Inter Milan.
