Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez is reportedly on the radar of Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli. The Premier League champions, however, have made it clear that the Algerian international will not be allowed to leave for free.

A Concrete Interest

Al-Ahli has shown a concrete interest in signing Mahrez, who has been a key player for Manchester City in their push for the Treble this season. The 32-year-old has scored 15 goals and provided 13 assists in 47 matches. Despite this interest, Al-Ahli has yet to make an official approach to Manchester City.

Mahrez’s performances have not only been instrumental in City’s domestic success, but they have also helped the team reach the Champions League final, where they will face Inter Milan.

No Free Exit

Manchester City is reportedly adamant about receiving a fee for Mahrez, ruling out any chance of a free transfer. Mahrez’s contract with City runs until 2025, giving the club a strong negotiating position.

Saudi Arabian clubs have largely targeted free agents in their recruitment drives. This strategy was evident when Cristiano Ronaldo signed for Al-Nassr on a reported £175 million-a-year contract. Karim Benzema also recently completed a move to Al-Ittihad after leaving Real Madrid, agreeing to a two-year deal worth around £345 million.

Mahrez’s Success at City

Since joining Manchester City from Leicester, where he played a crucial role in their shock Premier League title win, Mahrez has been a huge success. The winger has scored 78 goals in 236 appearances for the club, contributing to four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and three League Cups.

The interest from Al-Ahli is a testament to Mahrez’s consistent performances and his ability to deliver at the highest level. However, it remains to be seen whether the Saudi club will meet Manchester City’s demands and secure the Algerian’s services.
