Manchester United is reportedly on the brink of signing French defender Axel Disasi from AS Monaco, according to L’Équipe. The 24-year-old has been identified as a key transfer target for United’s manager, Erik ten Hag.
United’s scouts were reportedly impressed by Disasi’s performances in the Ligue 1 and Europe last season. The centre-back made a significant contribution to Monaco’s campaign, with 49 appearances across all competitions, six goals, and four assists. His efforts helped Monaco secure a sixth-place finish in Ligue 1, just three points behind fourth-placed Stade Rennais.
Despite being linked with Disasi in the January transfer window, United did not make a formal offer. However, the club seems determined to secure his services this summer. Disasi’s contract with Monaco is set to expire in 2025, and with no ongoing negotiations for a new deal, Monaco might be compelled to sell to avoid losing him at a reduced price next year.
Monaco is reportedly willing to sell Disasi for around £34m (€40m), a price United is prepared to meet. With the club set to compete in next season’s Champions League, reinforcements like Disasi could provide crucial support for Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
Disasi, who made two appearances for France at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, is known for his versatility across the backline. His potential move to United could be a significant boost for the club’s defensive lineup.
