Inter extends Serie A lead with convincing 2-0 victory over Genoa.

Inter secured a dominant 2-0 victory over Genoa at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Federico Dimarco and Hakan Çalhanoğlu scored the goals, solidifying their Serie A top spot.

The league leaders came in strong, boasting five consecutive wins. Genoa, in mid-table, aimed to challenge this dominance. They faced a tough task against the in-form Inter.

The match began with early intensity. Genoa’s Ruslan Malinovskyi earned a yellow card in the 9th minute. Inter quickly took control, dominating possession from kickoff.

Inter’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan also received a yellow card in the 21st minute. Despite the cautions, Inter pressed hard. Their offensive efforts soon created an opening.

The breakthrough arrived in the 31st minute. Henrikh Mkhitaryan provided a precise assist to Federico Dimarco. Dimarco struck the ball home, giving Inter a deserved lead.

Inter maintained their slender advantage into half-time. Genoa made an immediate tactical change. Amorim replaced the booked Malinovskyi for the second half.

The second half brought early substitutions. Inter introduced Marcus Thuram and Hakan Çalhanoğlu in the 59th minute. Genoa responded with Caleb Ekuban coming on a minute later.

More tactical changes came in the 66th minute. Genoa made a double substitution. Inter also brought on Yann Aurel Bisseck for Stefan de Vrij.

Inter’s Hakan Çalhanoğlu then received a yellow card for tripping. This added to the busy period of play. He continued to influence the game despite the booking.

Inter’s persistence was rewarded moments later. They earned a penalty, which Çalhanoğlu calmly converted in the 70th minute. This strike extended Inter’s lead to 2-0.

With the outcome decided, both teams utilized their remaining substitutions. Inter made two late changes in the 76th minute. Genoa’s final substitution came in the 86th minute.

Inter dominated statistics, holding 56% possession and 14 shots (6 on target). Their xG of 1.54 vastly surpassed Genoa’s 0.21. This highlighted their superior attacking play.
