Borussia Dortmund delivered a commanding 4-0 victory over FSV Mainz 05, with Serhou Guirassy bagging a double and Julian Ryerson providing three assists.

Borussia Dortmund delivered a commanding performance against FSV Mainz 05, securing a decisive 4-0 victory at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. Julian Ryerson was the architect of Dortmund’s early dominance, providing three assists in a rampant first-half display.

Entering the fixture, Borussia Dortmund sat second in the Bundesliga, riding a five-game winning streak. Mainz, positioned 14th, aimed to climb away from the relegation zone despite a mixed run of recent results. The home side sought to maintain their title challenge on February 13, 2026.

The hosts asserted their authority quickly. Just after Silvan Widmer received an early yellow card for Mainz in the ninth minute, Serhou Guirassy opened the scoring. Julian Ryerson delivered a precise assist, which Guirassy converted to put Dortmund ahead.

The lead doubled almost immediately in the 15th minute. Ryerson again turned provider, sending a perfectly weighted pass to Maximilian Beier. Beier made no mistake, slotting the ball past Mainz goalkeeper Daniel Batz to establish a comfortable two-goal cushion.

Dortmund continued to press their advantage. Though Niklas Süle picked up a yellow card in the 23rd minute, it did not deter the home side. Mainz made an early substitution in the 27th minute, bringing on Kacper Potulski for Stefan Bell, looking for stability.

Serhou Guirassy then claimed his second goal of the match just before the interval, in the 42nd minute. Julian Ryerson completed his assist hat-trick, setting up Guirassy for another clinical finish. Dortmund headed into halftime with a comprehensive three-goal lead.

At the break, Borussia Dortmund held a commanding position, having dismantled Mainz’s defense with ruthless efficiency. Mainz faced an uphill battle, needing a dramatic shift to salvage anything from the encounter.

The second half began with a tactical change for Dortmund as Luca Reggiani replaced Niklas Süle. Mainz’s struggles continued, with Stefan Posch earning a yellow card in the 56th minute for a foul.

Both teams made a flurry of substitutions around the hour mark, attempting to refresh their lineups. Mainz brought on Silas, Philipp Mwene, and Paul Nebel, while Dortmund introduced Chukwubuike Adamu, Fábio Silva, and Julian Brandt, among others.

Dortmund continued to control possession, stifling any Mainz attempts at a comeback. The visitors’ frustration mounted, culminating in an unfortunate moment in the 84th minute. Dominik Kohr inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, extending Dortmund’s lead to 4-0.

Dortmund’s attacking prowess was evident with 7 shots on target from 14 total, comfortably outperforming their 1.74 Expected Goals (xG). Mainz registered 4 shots on target from 9 total, but failed to convert their 1.43 xG. Dortmund enjoyed 55% possession.

This dominant 4-0 victory cemented Borussia Dortmund’s strong position in the Bundesliga table. It underlined their attacking threat and defensive solidity, keeping their impressive winning streak intact. Mainz, meanwhile, will seek to regroup after a difficult trip to SIGNAL IDUNA PARK.
